I'm just your typical moron who throws random temper tantrums every now and again. If I would have known this is how I was destined to turn out fifteen years ago after graduating University, I would have stabbed myself in the head with my gift graduation pen then and there.

The Black Crowes
Stubb's BBQ
Austin, Texas
September 25, 2010

Ian McLagen and Gordy Johnson guests. The rehearsal sessions before embarking on the big Fall tour...and I missed it.

Monday, December 27, 2010

Yesterdays Luke Haines "tragi-thon" was so inspiring that I thought I'd give it another whirl this afternoon. This was my absolute favorite album from what I still recall of my university years. That one, true album you discovered all on your own that no one else ever really seemed to appreciate quite as much.

Jerry Joseph & Jackmorons
Rolling Summer Festival
Huntsville, UT
08-26-01

I'm starting to get a real rock star crush on this guy. This particular set really smokes featuring Widespread Panic's john Bell on guitar.

Nothing inspires inner meditation and peace during a yoga workout quite like the loveless parables of tragedy, sadness, and loss.

The Silver Hearts
Live @ the Gordon Best Theater
Peterborough, ON
12-17-2000

I remember driving in zero visibility along the QEW to see this show and never doubted or regretted a minute of it.

Kukaruza
Rockygrass Bluegrass Festival
Lyons, CO
08-07-93

A Russian bluegrass band, or would that make it Redgrass?

Disco Biscuits

My Christmas run soundtrack solely because it has a jammy version of the Vince Guaraldi Trio 'Linus & Lucy'.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Bonnaroo Music Festival
Manchester, TN
06-13-03

Great show for what would inevitably be a very sweaty, stinky hippie crowd.

Thursday, December 23, 2010

Leadbelly
Townhall
Minneapolis, MN
11-21-48

Classic old schools blues. Excellent recording quality.

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Bonnie Raitt
"Live at Montreaux"
Montreaux, Switzerland
1977

Live DVD. Amazing set of music from a very diverse band, even featuring a solo on a tuba by a guy named "Freebo". C'mon, seriously...how can that not be cool?

Billy Bragg
Masey Hall
Toronto, ON
10-08-00

I will never miss Billy Bragg again. Ever. Absolutely brilliant live.

What the heck, why not?

Joy of Cooking
Fillmore West
California, CA
1971

No f-u-c-k-i-n-g idea who these guys are. All attempts at Googling only turned up out-dated cook books. But then again, after hearing them, maybe that whole slipping into obscurity thing was not so bad after all. Regardless, if anybody knows anything about this band (although I doubt anyone fucking does) I would really appreciate the heads up.

57 minutes of noodley gobbledy gook.

Jimmy Swift Band / Grand Theft Bus
Pepper Jacks
Hamilton, ON
01-22-03

First night of the epic "Seamless Sets" shows featuring 3-4 hours of non-stop music from two of Canada's (then) prominent jam bands. Great soundtrack for a cold, hilly long run in the country.

Friday, December 17, 2010

John Lee Hooker
Sweetwater's
Mill Valley, CA
03-11-92

Featuring guests/friends Eric Clapton, John Hammond, Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Robert Cray, Booker T. Washington, and others. I would have given my left testicle to have been a fly on the all at this show.

Professor Longhair
Tipitina's
New Orleans, LA
12-31-78

A N'awlins legend.

Bombsquad w/ Bonerama
The Funkbox
Baltimore, MD
03-17-05

The entire St. Patrick's Day show from both the opening and main acts. Imagine Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter all being covered on a trombone. It doesn't get any more eclectic than that.

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Neil Young w/ Booker T. Washington
Finsbury Park
London, U.K.
07-11-93

True story: I lived around the corner from this park on the High street and remember listening to the show from outside the fence. I just didn't have the 'bob' to get in and enjoy the show first hand, but the show still sounded killer out on the sidewalk with a warm can of Newcastle in my hand.

Lou Reed
Konserthuset
Stockholm, Sweden
05-14-74

I've never been a huge fan of Lou's live material, either solo or with the Velvet Underground. This, however, rocks.

Amina String Quartet
The Chicago Theater
Chicago, IL
09-21-05

If ever I need to have a root canal, I will hire these guys to play during the surgery. This is the sound of someone lapsing into a coma. What is it with Icelandic peoples and really, really ambient music?

The La's
The Ambassador Theater
Dublin, Ireland
06-07-05

This is one of my all-time favorite bands and I was excited to get a rare recent show, unfortunately, the recording quality absolutely blows and it was nearly unlistenable.

Monday, December 13, 2010

Hot Bag
George's Majestic Lounge
Fayetteville, AR
10-19-04

With Mike Dillon (drums), Skerik (saxophonics), and Brad Haas (organ). Some 'advant crap' as I have heard it put before. Some random tunes about hippies & Jesus, granola, and other oddball chants of dubious themes.

Lynryd Skynryd
Capital Theater
Cardiff, Wales
11-05-75

Amazingly crisp quality recording and a fantastic show to boot.

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Richard Thompson w/ Judith Owen & Debra Dobkin
Aladdin Theater
Portland, OR
05-08-06

"1000 Years of Popular Music". Excellent intimate acoustic show.

"Trader Joe's Gingerbread Chai Whoopsie Pie"

I have never had (or heard of, for that matter) these things before but it seemed like a perfectly random thing to name a silly play list after.

Classical Gas - Mason Williams
Hip-Hug-Her - Booker T. & MG's.

Xavier Rudd

Funky Aussie based jamster with a digj and some high tech toys. Kinda like Keller Williams does Rolf Harris. Good tunes for weights.

Lee Boys & Traveling McCourys
Old Settlers Music Festival
Driftwood, TX

Kickass bluegrass with lap steel goodness.

A CD from a local musician that I found for a buck at the local church bizarre. Sorry Jesse, I like to support local music but, shit, $1.00? A deals a deal.

Housemartins
Werchter Festival
Werchter, Belgium
07-05-87

Most random stage announcements and stage banter ever: "the gentleman in the hat is wearing a blue hat...", "the time is currently 6:13...", and "the temperature is now 69-something..." What the fuck did this guy take before the show?

Acoustic Guitar Trio
Rocco
